Esther O’Leary - Athletics & Ball Skills Training Coach

Esther O’Leary began training senior infants on Thursday, 23rd March last and this will continue each Thursday for Senior Infants until Thursday, 11th May. Junior Infants will begin training with Esther on Thursday, 18th May. Tracksuits and runners are requested each Thursday for Senior Infants until May 11th and thereafter for Junior Infants each Thursday. Sincere thanks to our Parents Association for funding the full costs of athletics training for all our pupils. Click here for more pictures.




Maths 4 Fun Games Initiative

Maths 4 Fun Games Initiative

This very popular Maths 4 Fun Initiative placed over the last few years began Scoil Iosagain in March. The pupils enjoy a new maths games using dice and counters, developing new maths language, adding on and counting back as well as waiting turns, all in a fun way. Parents who are in a position to come and help each Friday morning from 9.05am to 9.40am each Friday morning are most welcome. Click here for more pictures.




Am Orga and two new large puppets

Am Orga and two new large puppets

Extra Irish games, Am Orga and two new large puppets have arrived in Room 1 and Room 2 to help develop our spoken Irish. These puppets were purchased with monies raised at Breakfast with the Elves fundraiser before Christmas. Further puppets will be purchased in the weeks ahead.

Seachtain na Gaeilge 13th – 16th Lá de Márta 2017

This year Seachtain na Gaeilge fell during the week of St Patrick’s Day. All our families were invited to special day of Irish Song, Dance on Tuesday 14th March in the school halla. Sincere thanks to Parents Association for fully funding Irish Dance throughout this school year. Pupils wore our Irish national colours this week to help celebrate our national feast day and our Seachtain na Gaeilge events. Click here for more pictures.

Friendship Week incorporating new Friendship Tree: 28th February to 3rd March

A beautiful Friendship Tree has been painted just inside the double green doors over mid-term. Our pupils are being encouraged to make the friendship tree blossom and grow beginning this week and during the rest of the school year. Kind hands, kind feet, kind voices, “help us all to be a friend” is being nurtured and our pupils names will be place on the tree. You are most welcome to come and view this beautiful artistic Friendship Tree which looks wonderful on our school corridor. Friendship bracelets and stories were also promoted during Friendship Week to help our young pupils understand how to be a friend and how to make new friends. Click here for more pictures.

Senior Infants Christmas Concerts 2016

Over the last two weeks Christmas Concerts have been taking place in Scoil Íosagáin. Parents, grandaprents and friends of the pupils involved all arrived at the school to witness the great events. Much work had been put into preparing the concerts by both the children and their teachers. A huge thank must be given to all those involved in this wonderful occasion. Breakfast with the Elves 2016


Breakfast with the Elves was a great success today in Scoil Íosagain. Children got the opportunity to eat some breakfast in school while Santa's helpers handed out healthy ceral. Lovely carols rang creating a festive atmosphere. Milk was kindly donated by Dano's Centra. All proceeds go towards buying resources for the Irish programme. Fun was had by all. Harvest Assembly 2016

IHarvest Assembly in Scoil Íosagáin was a wonderful celebration of our wonderful harvest. Our school halla was bursting with autumn fruit delights, vegetables of all shapes and sizes for all pupils to view and enjoy. Harvest songs filled the air as parents listened on proudly to their young children entertaining all. The huge selection of pumpkins brought in by the pupils caused great excitement with very intricate designs created by our families. Some pumpkins even travelling all the way from Lithuania. Maths Week 2016

Maths Week 2016

IMaths Wek was a success in Scoil Íosagáin this week. Every class took part in the "Lay the Table" activity. Parents came in to help with this activity and maths language and oral computation was abundant.

Maths Stations with maths games also took place and the teachers did some extra time outside of school to get new ideas for maths activities in the classroom. Thanks to all parents who came in to help out and to Mrs. Wallace, Mrs. Collins and the Board of Management for the Mata sa Rang training. Click here for some photos


Sports Day 2016

Sports Day

A glorious day of sports for all was held on Friday the 17th of June in Scoil Íosagáin. Our pupils enjoyed many activities at various stations throughout the morning. The obstacle course proved a wonderful favourite for all our young pupils. In the afternoon, junior and senior infants and parents all participated in sprints, egg and spoon. sack race and other novelty races. The mammys and daddys race was a great hit with all involved. International Day

International Day

International Day was celebrated on on Friday 27th of May. Children sang songs, played the tin whistle and danced Irish dances. Our families from Poland were delighted to hear Twinkle Twinkle Little Star sung in their mother tongue. There was also a wonderful display of Polish Traditional Costume, African dance and a rousing rendition of Ireland's Call. Our parents provided beautiful food dishes from around the world. Bulb Planting

Bulb Planting October 2015.

Last October every child in our school planted some of the one thousand nine hundred and sixteen bulb to commemorate the Easter Rising of 1916. Each class went out to our garden and planted the bulbs in the soil. We were assissted by the men of Avondhu Blackwater, who prepared the ground and showed the children which way is best to plant a bulb. It was a wonderful time for all involved.

Breakfast with the Elves 2015

On Wednesday 9th of December the young infant pupils in Scoil Iosagáin enjoyed a wonderful healthy breakfast with the elves. The children relaxed together in the school halla and enjoyed their breakfast to the sound of Chrstimas Carols. Teachers and special helpers joined in the fun with festive colours. Many turned into elves for the day. Breakfast with the elves is one of the favourite events loved by all pupils. Sincere thanks to all our parents who sponsered all the healthy cerals. We would like to also sincerely thank Mr. Donal O Mahony Centra, who sponsered all the litres of milk for the occasion. Click here tofind more images


Irish Dancing

Seachtain Na Gaeilge 2015

Scoil Íosagáin recently celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge with wonderful performances from both the Senior and Junior Infants. Each class performed an Irish dance and sang an Irish Song. Much preparation went into the Irish dancing by the teachers, the children and their dancing teacher Breda Mulchay. Some of the dances performed included the 8 hand reel, Round the house and the bonfire dance. Our Irish songs included Tá mé i mo shuí, Mé féin and An Leipreacháin. Great fun was had by all. Sports Day 2014

Sports Day was a wonderful success in Scoil Íosagáin this year.

It took place on the 12th of June. Children completed visited centres with various activites in the morning and then the races were held in the afternoon.

The Parents Assocaition had water and a medal for each children at the presentation arena.

Active Schools

Active schools was a great success with our wake up shake up mornings with Threasa Napier, yoga with Íde Kelleher, and active assembly with our principal Sheila Collins. We had active yards throughout the week with specfic games each day. This year is a special year as we achieved our active flag. The raising of this flag will take place later in the year.

Senior Infants recently brought the Navity to life in wonderful concerts for the parents. Teachers and students worked very hard to reach such an excellent standard. We had twinkling stars, silly angels, sleepy shephards and regal kings. Parents were delighted to see their children perform so wonderfully. It was a special time for all involved.

Harvest Assesmbly was excellent this year in Scoil Íosagáin.Parents created beautiful food carvings. Children sang beautfiul songs. We all celebrated the Autumn Season.

Healthy Schools Week was a great success in Scoil Iosagain. Each class in Scoil Íosagáin got a taste of healthy food from our Food Rainbow.



Golf Day

Each class in Scoil Íosagáin got a taste of golf recently. Two professional golfers came in with child friendly golf games to help the children gain a few skills. Much fun was had by all. Plenty of golf talent was visable in Scoil Íosagáin. Watch out, a future Irish Open Winner could have been amongst us!!!!

Each class performed in their Active Performance. We had Action Songs and Dances. The children loved performaing and the Parents were delighted to see their children performance their Active Week Dances.

Senior Infants got very active during their Irish Dancing Classes. They have these classess for six weeks this term and are busy learning 8 hand reels. Breda is doing a great job with all the classes.

Each Junior Infant class performed wonderful nativity plays for parents grandparents and friends over the past two weeks. Children sang songs and said their lines with confidence and were rewarded with rapturous applause. Teachers and children alike put a lot of effort into preparing these nativity plays. Junior and Senior Infants recently celebrated their Christmas Assemblies with Mrs Collins, the teachers and parents present. They sang songs, talked about Christmas and lite the Christmas Tree. Each child made a star with their own name on it as a decoration for the tree. We listened to traditions from other countries. Monica Maslanka brought in pictures of traditions in Poland. It was truely a wonderful occasion for all the school.

Halloween Sing-A-Long 2016

The annual Halloween Sing-A-Long took place on Thursday the 27th of October. All our lovely children changed into witches, goblins, ghosts and zombies and came to school. The parents of both Senior Infants and Junior Infants were invited into the halla to enjoy a verse and a song performed by each class. Castle Walk 2016

Castle Walks

Over the last two weeks children, parents and teachers from Senior Infants have been to visit Mallow Castle and it's surrounds. Children really enjoyed learning about castles and their uses. They also got to see the famous white deer. This year they had an added bonus of meeting Will the Woodcutter who was creating a wood sculpture on the grounds of the castle. As always many chestnuts, acorns and leaves were collected. A great day was had by all. Thanks to the teachers and the parents for guiding the children around the grounds. International Week 2016

International Week

International Week took place from 23rd -27th of May. Following a very successful meeting with parents our traditional International Day was extended to an International Week. Parents displayed their playground gmaes from around the world, their food ideas, their art and craft and their stories. All of these activities brought delight to our pupils. Wooden flags were painted and erected near the entrance as a welcome to all. Click here to see some images.

In Scoil Íosagáin we were very lucky to celebrate seachtain na gaeilge with some lovely Irish dancing performed by both the junior and senior infant children. Their teacher was Mrs. Breda Mulchay. All children did their best and performed lovely two hand, six hand and eight hand reels. Well done to all involved. Click here to see some images.



1916 Commemoration

1916 Tricolour Presentation

In Scoil Íosagáin we were very lucky to recieve the Tricolour from Army Officers last Wednesday the 20th of January 2016.

We sang songs, local musicans played music and local dancers danced some Irish Dances. The Officers were walked into the school by a piper. All the children made Irish Flags and decorated the school in small tricolours.

It was a lovely time for all classes. The children practised all their lines and all their songs in class. The concert took place in the school hall.

Once again this year our halla was filled with harvest fruit and vegtables of all shapes and sizes. The harvest colours and the harvest songs delighted all our pupils and parents as everyone gathered to celebrate the fruits of the harvest of 2015. Mr. and Mrs. Farmer (George and Eileen) came along to the delight of our young pupils. The children sang beautfiul songs of praise and lovely catchy songs on the combine harvester, Mr. Pumpkin and finally the harvest moon. Active Week 2015

Active Week 2015

This year we had a wonderful active week in Scoil Íosagáin. Each day we had different active yards, including races, hoola hoop games, ball and bean bag throwing games, races and parachute activities. We also had wake up and shake up in the mornings to get children alert and ready for action. This was run by Therese Napier. She also guided the children through vigorous Zumba classes. Teachers did extra P.E. lessons and extra busy breaks in the class room.

Children kept a diary of the week and had lots of energetic fun. We can’t wait until our sports day. Click here for some images

fifth celebration

50th Celebration

Our school recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. Pupils from the orignial class returned to our school along with our neighbours, other psat pupils and school community. It was a wonderful celebration of song and dance. Parents and children alike got involved in the performances. We would like to thank the Castle set dancers for giving us a performance of set dancing. Thanks to all of our school community and members of the local community for making the celebration such a special day.Click here to see images.

Junior Infants produced and performed in wonderful Chrismtas Nativity Plays over the last week. There was much excitment in all the classess as the children were about to take to the stage. Teachers and children worked really hard on getting the lines correct and the songs pitch perfect. Parents were delighted to see their children perform so beautifully. It was a special time for all involved and congrautlaions to all.

We had two lovely Assemblies last Tuesday in our school. Parents children and staff all celebrated our Winter Season with song and stories. Our Beautiful Christmas Tree was lite with sparkling silver stars made by the each child.

Seachtqain Na Gaeilge was celebrated in our school recently. We had performances for the parents. These involved each class performing an Irish song or poem. They also did an Irish Dancing performance. The did 3 hand reels, two hand reels, six hand reels and eight hand reels. These were lead by the Irish Dancing teacher Mrs. Breda Mulchay.

A great celebration was enjoyed by all.

Our Active Week even influenced our Art Work. Children in all class drew pictures of their favourite activities during Active Week. Children from each class made it to the school's Wall Of Fame.

The whole school had a wake up and shake up morning. Treasa Napier came in and knidly gave her time to wake and shake us all up. It was great fun and both students and teachers alike really enjoyed the active experience.
